Blendtec vs Vitamix New and Improved Blender Models
Two of the biggest and most expensive blender brands in the United States, Blendtec and Vitamix blenders offer YOU, the consumer, an all in one blending experience where you are able to blend 4 basic types of blends; Hot Blends, Dry Blends, Cold Blends, and Wet Blends. What are Hot, Dry, Wet, and Cold Blends?
Examples of Hot Blends
Only very high powered blenders can do Hot Blends, which are organic and healthier solutions for your health and well being than store bought products.
Hot Soups: Tortilla Soups, Vegetable Soups, Creamy Soups
The Vitamix and Blendtec blenders are designed to create a constant heat at the base of the containers from the friction caused by the blades spinning at a high RPM(blendtec can spin at 28000RPMs and Vitamix at 36000RPMs), which in turn is able to cook and heat up soup, along with many other recipes. (friction is a form of heat).
Organic Milk Substitutes: Hot Chocolate Almond Milk or Hot Soy Milk:
If you add soy beans and water into your blender jar and put the blender on it’s highest speed, it will liquify the nuts and water and create an organic milk substitute, which can be hot or if you add ice can be cold. Hot Soy Milk is a popular one to make, and you can make it in 3 minutes vs doing it traditionally which can take 20 min. It works with Seed Milks and Nut Milks.
Examples of Dry Blends
Flour: Fresh organic Rice Flour or Wheat flour or Oat Flour can be used for cooking and baking recipes. When you keep the Vitamix container or Blendtec Jar dry you can use the blender as a grinder and add rice or wheat or oats to the container and grind it into a flour in 30 to 60 seconds. You can grind seeds into flours also, which are amazingly healthier than store bought flour which is full of preservatives and additives, nothing is better than fresh and homemade.
Coffee Beans: Your blender can work as a coffee grinder. Grind your coffee beans just like you would a flour, make sure the container is dry and add in your coffee beans; blend on a low speed, don’t over blend, you can make the coffee beans to fine, you want the powder to be gritty so it doesn’t seep through the coffee filter.
Examples of Cold Blends
Ice Cream and Sorbet: Thick rich and creamy, healthy ice cream recipes can be found in the cook book which you will receive when you order a Blendtec or Vitamix blender. Ice creams are fun to make and you can add your own ingredients, sneak in vegetables and fruits and nuts and dates, make it amazingly healthy and delicious, great for the kids. Add a lot of ice on top of the ingredients with a little bit of liquid and blend on a low speed. Fantastic.
ACAI Bowls: Popular at the smoothie shops are ACAI Bowls, you’ll notice that the smoothie shop you are going to is using either a Vitamix blender or a Blendtec blender, Nectar smoothie shop uses the old Vitamix Turbo blend blenders for their ACAI Bowls, but whichever blender you go with, you’ll be able to make homemade ACAI Bowls.
Examples of Wet Blends
Smoothies: Mostly used as a smoothie blender, the Vitamix or Blendtec blenders are used at your local juice shops and smoothie shops. With a high powered blender you can add in any ingredient and pulverize it into a nutritious and delicious smoothie in seconds. Great for workouts and staying healthy, and you can add in nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables.
Green Juices: Green juice recipes in a blender can be more nutritious than a juicer because you retain all the fiber from the vegetables and fruits you place in the container, nothing goes to waste and the blender jar is also is much easier to clean than a juicer, you should rinse it off when your done. You are able to add in Whole Foods, big chunks of fruits and vegetables, you don’t have to chop it down into tiny little pieces.
Best and most Popular Blender Models
With so many blender models to choose from which one is right for you? Both Vitamix and Blendtec have expanded their brands in the last few years to increase sales and give their consumer more options. They both offer many different blender models at different price points to meet the demands of the consumer. I’ll mention a few of the best ones but you are not limited to choosing from only these.
Blendtec Blender Classic Series
The Classic Blendtec blenders are a great and affordable choice and more affordable than their Designer Series. The two blender models offered are the Blendtec 575 and the Blendtec Total Blender which offer automatic settings and manual controls, you can blend all your recipes in either the Blendtec Wildside Jar or the Blendtec Standard Jar. Many consumers like to keep the standard jar for grinding grains and use the Wildside Jar for Cold, Wet, and Hot Blends. Both blenders come with a standard warranty and cook book. Priced at around $300 to $400 brand new this is a good choice for a blender that will last you for many years. The Blendtec Total Blender has been around for around 15 years now and has been a popular and reliable choice for consumers, the Blendtec 575 is a newer classic series version.
Blendtec Blender Designer Series
A more expensive choice but a fantastic modern design. The Blendtec Designer delivers excellent performance and easy to use design. The push button digital display is very straight forward featuring automatic settings and a touch slider which helps you control the speeds from low to high with your finger. The Designer has a nice size which is compact and stable on the kitchen counter and can fit under cabinets. It uses the Wildside Blendtec Jar and can also fit the Twister Jar and Fourside Jar on it’s blender base. Priced from $450 to $500 it is the more expensive option Blendtec offers but well worth it.
Blendtec Blender Pro Series
The high powered commercial blender by Blendtec, the Professional 800 blender, is meant to be used at juice shops and commercial restaurants. It has a 3.8hp, 1800 watt, 15 amp motor which is slightly more powerful than the Blendtec Designer and Blendtec Classic series blender models. It uses the same sleek design as the Blendtec Designer featuring a touch slider and pre programmed automatic features, but with the Pro 800, you have customizable programs which you can put in yourself.
The motor and base are 20 pounds, it is a much bigger appliance, the enclosure you see reduces the blending noise making it much quieter than a normal Blendtec blender. You can find these blenders refurbished and still get a warranty or you can pay a little more and buy it new.
Vitamix Blender Explorian Series
The most affordable from the Vitamix Series is the Vitamix Explorian blender model pricing in at below $300. Very similar to other Vitamix blender models, the E310 Explorian has a speed dial with 10 speeds which you control, a pulse feature and an on / off switch. Also a tamper to push ingredients into the blades while it’s running is helpful.
Vitamix upgraded the blender base to be a little lower and heavier so the blender doesn’t move around while its blending. The blender container holds 48oz (1.4L), but you can upgrade to a 90oz Low Profile Container during check out. The motor is 2hp and can overpower all your nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables, no problem. The E310 comes with a 5 year warranty standard and you can purchase 3 extra years for an additional $75, also their are 3 color options to choose from: Red, Slate, and Black.
Vitamix Blender Legacy Series
A great design by Vitamix, the Vitamix Legacy Series features the Vitamix 750 blender model which has 5 automatic settings on the speed dial that changes speeds for you, Hot Soups, Smoothie, Ice Cream, Puree, and self clean. The speed dial has 10 powerful speeds which you control, low to high, and a pulse switch for chopping and finishing off a blend. I love the look and feel of the Vitamix 750 blender, it looks great in the kitchen and is very powerful. It comes standard with the Low Profile Container which is easy to clean, BPA Free, and dishwasher safe. The powerful 2.2hp, 12amp motor pulverizes any ingredient you put in the container including nuts, seeds, and leafy greens and the motor base weighs 13 pounds so it’s very stable on the counter and the height is 17.25 inches with the Low Pro Container. The Vitamix 750 comes with a full 7 year warranty so you can be assured you are getting a quality blender.
There are 4 blender models in the Vitamix Legacy Series, the Vitamix 7500, the Vitamix 750, the Vitamix Three Speed TurboBlend, and the Vitamix 5200. The 750 is the only one with automatic features on its speed dial, the motor and base of the 7500 and 750 are the same and the motor and motor base of the Three Speed Turbo Blend and the 5200 are the same. All models come with a tamper, warranty, and cookbook.
Vitamix Blender Ascent Series
A sleek new look is carrying the Vitamix brand into the next generation of blenders. The Ascent Series is the latest design by Vitamix and I must say, it’s amazing. Fun to use and easy to blend with; looks great in the kitchen. There are 10 speeds on the speed dial with automatic features offered on the Vitamix A3500 and A2500. Some people don’t like the automatic features and some people love the automatic features, Vitamix gives you options for both. The Vitamix 3300 and Vitamix 3500 have a digital display screens where the Vitamix 2300 and Vitamix 2500 have the standard speed dial with the two switches without a display screen. The price points are about the same for the Ascent Series Vitamix blender models, you’re looking at $400 to $550 for one of these, but the warranty is 10 years, which is a strong guarantee. A 2.2hp, 12amp motor comes standard on the Ascent Blender Models and gives you the power to blend all ingredients you wish to blend, and the compact design allows it to fit under most cabinets.
Vitamix Blender Commercial Series
Vitamix offers two commercial blenders with the sound proof enclosure, the Vitamix Quiet One and the Vitamix Touch and Go Advanced blender. You will see one of these blender models at your local smoothie shop or local Starbucks, they are sought after by commercial restaurants and juice shops. They are similar but have minor differences, for example, the quiet one has a 3hp motor where the advanced touch and go has a 2.3hp motor. The Quiet One has 6 programs with 34 optimized settings to choose from where the Touch and Go Advanced blender has 6 programs and 20 recipe settings to choose from. The Vitamix Quiet One weighs 20 pounds and the Vitamix Touch and Go weighs 12.5 pounds. Both blender models offer a three year warranty on blender base parts, and a one year warranty on labor, no warranty on the container.
The Noise Factor
The noise levels from these blenders can be very loud, take note, when you are blending a smoothie in the morning you will wake up other people in the house. The quieter blender models from Blendtec and Vitamix are the commercial blender models: The quiet one and the Professional 800, the home use blender models are all very loud. I just want you to know that, I’m just being honest here. That’s why the automatic features are so great because you can just push the button and walk away from the machine and it will stop by itself so you con’t have to stand next to the blender while it’s running.
Vitamix blender Low Profile Container vs Blendtec blender Wildside Jar
The Blendtec Wildside Jar and the Vitamix Low Profile Container are almost identical. Both hold 90oz, both have a thick 4 inch blade, both are made from BPA Free material. Both come standard on most of the blender models now because these are the best two containers you can purchase from these companies. It’s funny how Blendtec and Vitamix are trying to match each other at every level, even on their containers, lol.
I like how these two containers are easier to clean because of the wider base, much easier to reach your hand in there and clean under the blades, which you will have to do sometimes. Making recipes is a breeze in these two containers, make all the recipes from ice creams, dips, and batters to soups, smoothies, and margaritas in the Low Pro Container or the Wildside Jar.
The Tamper is the main difference between Vitamix and Blendtec containers. Vitamix blender containers all come with the tamper which helps you get rid of air pockets during the blend, you can push ingredients down into the blades while the blender is running with a Vitamix Container; where Blendtec blenders advertise that with their blender jars you don’t need tamper because the blade design pulls the ingredients into the blades for you, which is true most of the time, but sometimes you still might need a tamper, otherwise you have to stop the blender and shake out the air pocket and then start it again, which isn’t a big deal really, it all works great.
Motor and Design
Blendtec blender models have a more powerful motor than Vitamix blender models, their commercial professional series pro 800 blender has a 3.8hp motor with 1800watts and 15amps (does size really matter) where the rest of the Blendtec blender models have the 3hp, 1500 watt, 13amp motor, this provides you with substantial blending power to blend any ingredient, the motor can push the big dull blades to reach speeds of 28,000RPMs. High powered blenders such as Blendtec are all comparable with their speeds, but the motor on Blendtec does stand out.
Vitamix blender models have a strong and reliable motor with their commercial blender, The Quiet One blender, having a 3hp, 1500 watt, and 13 amp motor, and the rest of the Vitamix blender models coming with the 2.2hp motor, like on the Vitamix Legacy Series 750 and 7500 models or the Vitamix Ascent Series blender models, or the older style 2hp motor like on the Vitamix E310 model or 5200 model. Vitamix motors also push the blades hard, actually the Vitamix blender blades are able to spin slightly faster than the Blendtec blender models, at 36,000 rpms, cause the blade design is different.
Which blender blades can cook soup faster?
The fastest Soup time goes to Blendtec, we did a soup test in our blend offs series we did a few years back and found that the Blendtec blender jars are able to heat up soup recipes slightly faster than Vitamix containers. A soup usually takes 4 to 6 minutes to heat up in your Blendtec or Vitamix blender.
Vitamix vs Blendtec Display and Controls
The display on each blender model by both Vitamix and Blendtec are set up with similar but different controls and automatic settings. Some models feature more automatic features and some don’t. Some are digital and some are not. Different price points give you different features.
Vitamix focuses on their speed dial control where everything revolves around the manual control dial of the blender. Around the speed dial their might be automatic blend cycles like on the Vitamix 750 or Vitamix A3500; if there are no automatic blending cycles then it’s just a speed dial with a pulse switch and on/off switch. Some models like the Turbo Blend blender models only have a high/low speed or Low Medium High speed. Most Vitamix blender models have 10 speeds with the pulse and on switches, these models would be the Vitamix 5200, Vitamix E310, Vitamix 7500, Vitamix A2300, and Vitamix A3300. Tho these are all different styles, they all have the same display control settings. The Vitamix blender models with the speed dial and automatic features are the Vitamix A3500, Vitamix 750, and Vitamix 2500.
Blendtec has put all their focus on their digital display and digital push button technology where you have more automatic features on the display and where you actually use the automatic buttons much more than the manual speed settings. Blendtec blender models featuring the Designer and Classic blenders both have automatic blending cycles which work great and blend the recipes for you. They offer manual speeds and a pulse feature on their displays but you usually don’t use the manual speeds on the Blendtec blender models, you usually just push one of the automatic buttons.
On Blendtec blender displays there is a display screen on all their blender models which shows you the time remaining in the blend and the type of automatic feature you pushed. Vitamix offers this feature only on their Ascent Series blender models.
Blendtec blender overview and perspective
The Blendtec Classic Series and Blendtec Designer Series look completely different from one another but share a lot of similarities. The Blendtec Classic blenders are more compact with a 6 pound motor base where the Blendtec Designer is heavier at 10 pounds. The Blendtec Classic blenders use push button technology where you push a button to start and stop the blender, the manual controls and pulse feature are also in the form of buttons where you can feel the button as your finger goes over it.
The Blendtec Designer blenders also use a push button technology but the sleek new design makes it plush with the surface display where you can’t feel the button, it’s sunk into the display, but the buttons do the same thing. The manual speeds on the Blendtec Designer are the main difference on the display because it’s in the form of a touch slider where you use your finger to change speeds by sliding it back and forth, low to high, left to right, on the slide control settings. You can still push the touch slider and start the blender on any speed and then slide your finger back and forth on the slider to control the blend. This is their most advanced design. Blendtec advertises that the touch slider on the Blendtec Designer gives you more control over your blends.
The sleek cool look of the Blendtec Designer blenders might sell you more than the controls but the Classic Blendtec blender models give you the same features. Both have automatic features, manual speeds, and a pulse feature and the Blendtec Designer blenders costs more money so that might also affect your decision.

In Conclusion
To end this article I would like to say Blendtec vs Vitamix is what this entire website is about, make sure to read more about these blenders in other other articles, you can get more of a detailed understanding of each blender model by doing your own research, we just brushed on some of the main details in this article. Any of these blenders are gonna work for you, they are all fantastic.
The main decision you are having to make now are which set of controls do you like the most, which color do you want to go with, which container do you want to blend with, and how much do you want to spend. Obviously the cost of the blender models with the digital touch technology will cost a little more vs the models that are more simple, but they can all make the same recipes, so keep that in mind.
I personally like all of them and am able to use all of them the same. I think the main thing you should focus on is to get one that comes with the Wildside Jar or Low Profile Container, the container you blend with is the most important thing of all because it’s the thing you have to clean everyday and use everyday, the motor base and controls are also important but you will get used to whichever blender model you go with, they all work.
With that said, hope you choose the perfect blender for you, if you have comments or questions please leave them below and I will try and answer them, thank you for reading.
