How to Make Homemade Ice Cream
Now that you’ve purchased your blender you’re ready to start eating healthier, blender ice cream recipes are easy to make and you can sneak in fruits and veggies into your home made ice creams without the children knowing. LOL. In this article I’ll tell you exactly how to make ice cream in your blender and the tips and tricks to watch out for. Let’s get started.
Ice Cream Recipe Order
Select your ingredients that you’d like to put into the ice cream recipe. Once you’ve got all the ingredients ready then you can start adding them in. First add in your base ingredients, preferably the softer fruits which have more liquid; grapes are a great starter. Next add in 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of liquid of some type, apple juice, milk, water, etc. It’s a thick recipe so you’ll want to keep the liquid to a minimum. Next add in your harder fruits and veggies on top of the base ingredients, for example; apples, pears, pineapple, etc. Next add in your nuts; (almonds, Cashews, etc. ), seeds (Flax, Chia), leafy green vegetables (spinach, kale). Once all your ingredients are added in you add the ice. Ice is the most important thing for ice cream recipes because you’ll need a lot of ice to thicken up the blend; otherwise, you’ll end up with a smoothie. Add around 2 to 3 cups of ice. Once all the ingredients are in the container snap on the lid and blend starting a a low speed, then quickly change to a high speed, it should only take 30 seconds to make, and you might get an air pocket or three where you’ll have to stop the blender and shake it until the ingredients drop back down onto the blades, then repeat the process. The ice cream is ready when you see a star shape form at the top of the container.
So a quick re cap:
- First add soft ingredients and liquids
- Second add harder ingredients, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens
- Last add your ice

Blendtec ice cream vs Vitamix ice cream
Blendtec Jars make great ice creams, they are designed to pull ingredients into the blades for you so once you add the ingredients you can use their automatic blend cycle for ice cream which comes standard on most Blendtec blender models. You might get an air pocket or two but it’s easy to stop the blender and shake out the ingredients.
Vitamix Containers also make great ice cream recipes and Vitamix blender models come with a tamper stick so you can push ingredients into the blades while the blender is running so you don’t have to deal with air pockets. Vitamix also has an automatic blend cycle for ice cream recipes on some of their newer Vitamix blender models.
Health Benefits of Homemade Ice Cream
There are to many benefits to describe as anything you make yourself will be better and healthier, homemade ice cream is no different. There are so many combinations of ingredients you can add into your blender ice cream recipe, it’s mind blowing. Personally I love to add in chia seeds, flax seeds, and hemp seeds into my ice cream recipes, along with spinach, I usually add a lot of frozen fruits like strawberries and blueberries, and a bonus to frozen fruits are that you don’t need as much ice. This is just an example, but you are not limited to the types of ingredients you add in, there are vast opportunities to be very creative with your blender ice cream.
