Vitamix Blenders – Legacy Series
Built to last Vitamix offers Legacy Series blender models at a lower cost and you can also find them reconditioned(used). The Vitamix Legacy Series blenders have lead the brand for decades and have been the bread and butter for the Vitamix company. Featuring the Vitamix 750 and Vitamix 7500 and the Vitamix 5200 and the Vitamix Turbo blend, the Legacy Series gives you all the blending power you need for all your blends.
Now, with more and more blender companies like Blendtec, Ninja, and Nutribullet putting out high powered commercial blenders, Vitamix decided to expand their Legacy Series and added some new blender models with more features to give you, the consumer, more advanced blending options.
Vitamix created and experimented with many types of Legacy blender models where some are still available on their website and others are available only online on amazon and other affiliates. A few of the blender models in the Legacy Series that you can’t find on the Vitamix Website but can still buy on Amazon are the Vitamix 6300, the Vitamix 500, the Vitamix 5300. We will go over the upsides and downsides to these blender models in this article and describe what features we like the best. The current blender models still found on the Vitamix website are the Vitamix 7500, the Vitamix 750, the Vitamix 5200, and the Vitamix Three Speed Turbo Blend.
Vitamix Blenders – Price Break downs
Used and reconditioned Vitamix Blenders are always in demand because the motor lasts forever and you can get warranties on their reconditioned blender models. You can find deals on Vitamix Blenders on sites like Amazon and through the Vitamix website directly. The prices range from $400 to $600 on their new blender models for example the Turbo blend is the most affordable and then as the features and designs get more advanced so does the price of the blender. The most expensive in the Legacy Series blenders are the Vitamix 750 and 7500 models which offer the more enhanced motor and heavier motor base.
Vitamix Blenders – Motor Upgrades
Newer times means newer motors and Vitamix does not disappoint, newer Vitamix Legacy blenders come with a more powerful 2.2hp motor compared to their older 2hp motor on older Vitamix Blenders. What does this mean? It means more blending power for overpowering ingredients, blades won’t get stuck as easily going through ingredients. Vitamix Blenders are known for lasting a lifetime, and that’s what they guarantee with the strong warranty options.
Vitamix Blenders – Controls and Features
A bonus to the Legacy Series Vita Mix blender models are that you have a variety of control options to choose from. From the Three Speed Turbo Blender to the 10 speed Vitamix 5200 and 7500 to the Automatic features on the Vitamix 750, you can find a Legacy blender that gives you what you want.
All blender models in the Legacy Series, except the Turbo Blend, come with a speed dial with 10 speeds, and on the Vitamix 750 there are 5 automatic settings in addition to the speed dial. The automatic features are soup, frozen deserts, smoothie, dips, and self clean, the feature once started run for a specified time and then stop on their own which allows you to walk away from the machine. Automatic features can also be found the the Vitamix Ascent A3500 and Ascent 2500, but on those models there is a digital timer where you can see the time remaining where the Vitamix 750 there is not a digital timer.
The Turbo Blend is a more simple set up which makes it really easy to use; being that there are only speeds for Low, Medium, and High blending speeds. This works well because you can change the speeds very quickly which is more effective for thicker blends. When you snap from low to high or high to low it is allows for a fast speed change which is a good thing.
The Vitamix 5200 and Vitamix 7500 have exactly the same features on their front display, the main difference is that the Vitamix 5200 a taller lighter motor base with a 2hp motor where the Vitamix 7500 has a Newer style heavier and shorter motor base with a 2.2hp motor. Other than the base of the blender models being different the controls are the same between the 7500 and the 5200. The motor base on the 7500 and the 750 are the same and the motor base on the turbo blend and the 5200 are the same.
Vitamix Blenders – Containers and Blade Designs
Vitamix offers a variety of containers to choose from, some come standard with certain blender models but you can pick and choose whichever container you feel most comfortable using. Each container is slightly different from the next one, some are smaller some are bigger and some work better for certain blends such as ice cream or grinding grains. We discovered that the most universal container from the bunch is the 64oz Low Profile Container, but you can choose to get any container you’d like when you buy your blender.
The most used and most recommended Vitamix Container is the Low Profile Container, which has a fantastic BPA Free heavy duty design with a bigger 4 inch blade making it easier to clean and allowing you to make larger portions. All the Vitamix Containers are BPA Free but the Low Pro is much easier to clean than some of the other containers such as the old tall 64oz tall container, which is more narrow and has a smaller 3 inch blade, and you’ll find the cleaning thing a big deal because you literally have to clean the container every time you use it. The original tall 64oz Vitamix Container is still a good option and has been around for many years but it is very tall and harder to fit under cabinets and harder to clean, keep that in mind. Both are made from BPA Free material and both are see through.
The Low Profile Container is our favorite choice but Vitamix offers a variety of blending containers to choose from. Here are your options..
You have the Vitamix 48oz Stainless Steel Container which is slightly shorter with the same overall blade design as the Low Profile Container but with a little less room at the bottom where the blade is, still easy to reach into and clean, just not as easy as the Low Pro, plus you can’t make large portions because you are more limited, but really cool container. Might be all you need. It is the only Vitamix Container that is made from Stainless steel vs the other containers which are made from Eastman Tritman Co Polyester. The Stainless steel obviously adds a cool look and is very strong and is the only container from Vitamix that you can’t see through.
There is also another 48oz container which is not stainless steel which is slightly cheaper and is more similar to the other Vitamix Containers in it’s design where it’s a see through container with 4 sharp stainless steel blades. The 48oz Stainless still container is the most expensive from the bunch and is becoming more popular.
Vitamix offers two 32oz containers, one is for your normal wet blends which is for smoothies and such, and one is specifically only for dry goods, called their dry goods container which is for flours and grinding grains. The Dry Grinding container has a slightly different blade design as 2 of the blades are dull and 2 are sharp where the other 32oz container has the standard Vitamix blades which are 4 sharp blades. Both 32oz containers are shorter containers and can easily fit under cabinets, one downside is that the base is harder to reach into with your hand to clean, which you will find a hassle when cleaning your blender everyday. Both are made from the BPA Free Material and both are see through.
A Newly designed Vitamix Container which they are calling the DISC CONTAINER has a similar design to the 48oz container but with an entirely NEW BLADE SYSTEM. Vitamix seems to be experimenting with a different blade style here where the blades are actually not blades at all but rather one big dull stainless circle with holes added in specifically to let ingredients seep through and get blended. I’ve never seen a blade design like this before and this is something new from Vitamix, but if Vitamix is selling it I’m sure it works great.
Recap
So to recap what we just talked about the are TWO 64oz Vitamix Containers, one is tall and one is short and wide, there are TWO 48oz Vitamix Containers, one is made from stainless steel where you cannot see the ingredients being blended and the other is made from the standard BPA Free material that all the other Vitamix containers have. There are TWO 32oz Vitamix Containers, both are shorter and have a 3 inch blade with a narrower base than the 48oz containers. One 32oz container is specifically used for Dry Grinding and has a different blade design for grinding grains, and the other 32oz container is a used for smoothies and juices and the normal recipes you make in all Vitamix Containers. Finally, we have the NEW Vitamix Disc Container which is the same size and design as the 48oz containers but with a completely different blade style, being that it is a circle of steel and not actually blades at all. Hope that all makes sense.
Vitamix Blenders – Warranty Options
A 7 Year warranty comes standard on all Legacy blender models except the Turbo Blend which has a 5 year warranty; you have an option to extend the warranty for 3 more years for an additional $75 during checkout, each blender model has the option to extend. When you get your blender the warranty registration card will be in the box along with your cook book and blender. Registration is required, you have to register by mailing the card back to Vitamix with your Vitamix blender model number. You will see the blender model number and specific information when you flip over the motor base, it will be on the bottom, similar to a vehicle VIN number.
To Conclude
Whichever Vitamix machine you decide to buy you will not be disappointed, all Vitamix blenders work great, your preferences for enhanced controls will not affect the blend because the container you use will be the same. That being said, different controls on the newer models allow for easier blending because there are now automatic features where you can set it to run and walk away from the machine and it will stop when the blend is finished, so you don’t have to stand next to the blender while it’s running. The Vitamix Legacy blender models with automatic controls are the Vitamix 6300, Vitamix 500, and the Vitamix 750. The 6300 and 500 blenders are no longer sold through the Vitamix website but can be found on Amazon.
This is an appliance that will last for a very long time and it might out live you. Vitamix Blenders have been known to last 30 years or even a life time, so choose wisely. All the Legacy blender models are solid and have been proven and tested, your decision is in the design. The different designs are tough to differentiate from because they all look good once you get them, and in all honesty they all cost about the same price, ranging from $400 to $600. The only blender model Vitamix offers under $300 is the E310 blender. Read more about that one if you are interested in saving some money.
Recap
Legacy blenders have 2 different motor base designs where the 7500 and 750 models are heavier and have a 2.2hp motor, and the Turbo Blend and 5200 have the older style taller motor base design. The speed dial is used on all blender models except the Turbo blend. Any containers mentioned above can fit onto any of the blender models. The Vitamix 750 is the only one with the automatic features and is also the most expensive. If you don’t need the automatic features and just want a speed dial than your options are the 7500 and the 5200. You can still find the 6300, 5300, and 500 blender models on Amazon but they are no longer sold through Vitamix.
